There was wine in La Vera already in the Bronze Age and the wine ran in the Roman Emerita Augusta. Pizarro and Hernán Cortés took the Extremadura wine to America and in the 20th century, the cultivation of the vine exploded in Extremadura.
Then came years of quantity, monovarietales times of a grape, pardina, and much white wine. But ending the twentieth century, everything changed.
The tempranillo brought the variety and the fields of the banks Upper and Lower of the Guadiana, of Montánchez and Cañamero, of Land of Barros and Matanegra saw different grapes grow. 100,000 hectares were grapes Macabeo, chardonnay or sauvignon blanc, new grapes for different white wines … And red: cabernet sauvignon, garnacha … They changed the grapes and the mentality.
